Frankie Edgar will have one final chance to hoist UFC featherweight gold later this evening (Sat., July 27, 2019) at UFC 240 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, when he takes on reigning division champ Max Holloway in the main event.

Edgar, 37, has fought for the UFC featherweight title twice before, losing to Brazilian legend Jose Aldo on both occasions. Still, the former UFC lightweight king has fought tooth-and-nail over the past three years to regain his position at 145 pounds and ready himself for one more title shot.

Should Edgar get past Holloway later tonight at UFC 240 and end the champion’s 13-fight win streak in the featherweight division it would be the biggest win of “The Answer’s” career. That’s according to Edgar himself, who would put a win over Holloway above previous career victories over the likes of B.J. Penn, Sean Sherk, Urijah Faber, Chad Mendes, and Gray Maynard.

“I think this would top them all,” Edgar told TMZ Sports earlier this week. “Based on how many people are overlooking me. Based on the ups and downs I’ve had through my career. When I’m able to come out as champion this is going to top them all.”

Edgar and Holloway have been scheduled to fight twice before in the past, but injuries to both fighters eventually derailed the two from ever colliding inside of the Octagon. Despite the history shared between the two featherweights Edgar is convinced that there is no bad blood entering UFC 240.

“Max is a cool guy, man,” said Edgar. “I could probably hang out with the guy to be honest with you. Every time we interact he seems real chill. I fight my best friends everyday in the gym so it’s nothing personal for us.”

We’ll find out one way or another if Edgar has one final moment of glory left in the tank. Nobody has figured out Holloway at the featherweight level since Conor McGregor defeated “Blessed” via unanimous decision back in 2014 so it’s not going to be easy for Edgar to escape with the title later tonight in Edmonton.
