Eduardo Dantas defeated Mike Richman despite the fact that “The Marine” missed weight for their bantamweight bout at Bellator 137, and “Dudu” just learned that his opponent wasn’t clean on fight night.
California State Athletic Commission executive officer Andy Foster confirmed with MMAFighting.com on Tuesday that Richman failed the post-fight drug test on May 15, and Bellator confirmed he tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
Richman received a two-year suspension and $2,500 fine, and Dantas, who won via unanimous decision, wishes him the best.
“It’s sad to see a tough athlete like him get caught for doping,” Dantas told MMAFighting.com. “In that fight, he also didn’t make weight, so it’s a stage of his career to forget and learn with it. On the other side, I’m happy to know that, even on steroids and not making weight, I was better than him and won (laughs). But I wish him strength in this moment.”
Dantas (17-4), a former Bellator bantamweight champion, wants a shot at 135-pound titleholder Marcos Galvao, who submitted Joe Warren to win the title in March.
