Leon Edwards is confused.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight contender, who’s now won seven straight fights inside the Octagon, doesn’t understand all the hoopla around Jorge Masvidal’s backstage brawl in the wake of UFC London.
Affectionately known as “Three piece and a soda.”
That’s because the 170-pound “rat” hit Edwards with a cheap shot, then ran behind security to prevent “Rocky” from getting his licks in. That’s according to the Englishman’s conversation with Eurobash (helpfully transcribed by MMA Fighting).
“I walked over and he tried to cheap shot me, that’s it really. He threw a few cheap shots and then he ran behind security. He’s making out like he’s some kind of bad boy. I don’t understand, how can you find respect in cheap-shotting somebody and running behind security? I was shaking in anger, that’s how much I wanted to get to this man. I wasn’t even thinking about what I did, beating one of the best fighters in the world, that went out the window straight away as soon as this little rat tried to cheap shot me. His day will come soon and then we’ll see.”
Both Masvidal and Edwards scored impressive wins at UFC London (full results here). The former stopped Darren Till in the main event (video), while the latter outpointed Gunnar Nelson to keep his win streak intact (recap).
Edwards insists he’s not going to accept a fight unless it’s for the welterweight title, or if the promotion decides to book him against Masvidal. Assuming Kamaru Usman defends his strap against fellow buffet brawler, Colby Covington, there’s really no reason to not make this fight.
