“The Hardcore Kid” was just a bit too hardcore for the Mohegan tribal athletic commission.

Emanuel Newton tested positive for marijuana metabolites in a fight night drug test following Bellator 134 on February 27. MMAFighting.com confirmed the news with Bellator after The MMA Report initially reported it on Thursday.

Newton, of Long Beach, Calif., dropped the Bellator light heavyweight title to Liam McGeary in the evening’s main event at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

Per Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletics regulations, Newton will be suspended for 90 days, fined $3,000, and must submit a clean test before he is reinstated.

“It is important for all athletes to abide by the rules of the governing commission and we fully support the commission in their decision,” Bellator CEO Scott Coker said. “We look forward to seeing Mr. Newton get back in the cage once he serves his suspension.”
