Despite a major hiccup Friday night that saw Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza test positive for coronavirus and removed from his “Prelims” bout with Uriah Hall, the show will still go on later tonight (Sat., May 9, 2020) at UFC 249 live on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) from inside VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.
While Souza vs. Hall was an enticing fight that would have rounded out the “Prelims” card quite nicely, UFC 249 still packs enough star power to keep fight fans interested. The main event of the evening will feature an interim lightweight title fight pitting Tony Ferguson against human highlight-reel Justin Gaethje. In the co-main event, Henry Cejudo will defend his UFC bantamweight strap against former kingpin Dominick Cruz, who hasn’t fought in over three years.
In preparation for UFC’s return to the spotlight this weekend in Jacksonville, the promotion has released the last episode of UFC 249 “Embedded,” which can be seen in the above video player. This time around, the action focuses on fighters and teams preparing for final weight cuts and the new standard for UFC staredowns. Some fighters, such as Cejudo and Michelle Waterson, search for some comforting normalcy among the chaos.
From the official YouTube description:
Michelle Waterson uses technology to keep in touch with her family. Henry Cejudo takes in a sunset. Justin Gaethje works through his weight cut, Dominick Cruz’ team tempts him with pizza. Official weigh-ins go down and two title fights are official.
All that’s left to do now is fight. And with a stacked card top to bottom fight fans should be ecstatic that UFC 249 is right around the corner.
