Former WBC welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir will go to trial on July 25th in Santa Fe, Argentina to answer charges of sexual abuse. The 48-year-old former boxer is accused of sexually abusing his 8-year-old daughter.

According to Boxing Scene prosecutor Alejandra Del Rio Ayala of the Gefas Office (Fiscal Unity of Gender, Family, and Sexual Violence of the MPA) will ask for the court for a 20 year prison sentence for Baldomir if he is found guilty.

Prior to his court date being set, Baldomir spent approximately 900 days in jail. He was incarcerated after his ex-wife (and mother of the alleged victim) filed a complaint with the Center for Counseling the Victim of Family and Sexual Violence on October, 29th, 2016.

Baldomir’s pro boxing career began in 1993. After 12 years as a pro he had a record of 41-6-6. A 19-fight unbeaten run between 1999 and 2005 landed Baldomir a WBC and The Ring welterweight title shot versus Zab Judah.

He defeated Judah by unanimous decision to claim the titles and followed that up with a TKO victory over Arturo Gatti. He lost his titles to Floyd Mayweather Jr on November 4th, 2006. After that loss Baldomir fought for eight more years and retired with a record of 49-16-6 (losing to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in a WBC Silver super welterweight title fight along the way).
