Urijah Faber says Jose Aldo’s weight cut will not be good for his body.

Jose Aldo will be making the drop to bantamweight for the first time at UFC 245 this weekend. The long time featherweight champion has notably had weight issues in the past making 145 lbs, and this move to 135 lbs has him looking particularly gaunt and drained.

Many have expressed concern on the idea of Aldo dropping an added 10 lbs, and the list now includes his former opponent in Urijah Faber.

“Aldo, in my opinion, is one of the best fighters to ever grace the sport,” Faber told MMA Junkie. “Seeing him make this weight cut, I know that he’s mentally tough enough to do it. I don’t know if it’s going to be the best for his body.

“I remember the first time I did (135), I was over-cutting because I was nervous about how it was going to go, so I was getting too small, too early. I think he might be doing the same thing. I don’t think it’s going to be good for him. Hopefully he’s able to perform to the Aldo that we all know, but only time will tell on that one.”

The pair fought almost a decade ago at WEC 48, where Aldo defended his featherweight title and infamously chopped down Faber’s leg for 25 minutes. “The California Kid” dropped to bantamweight on his very next bout, where he has mostly settled in for the remainder of his career.

Both men are fighting on the same card this weekend, with Aldo facing Marlon Moraes, and Faber facing Petr Yan. Depending on how they play out, these two bouts could have serious title implications at bantamweight.
