UFC 245 — set to go down on Dec. 14, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada — just got a whole lot sweeter. According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has booked a Bantamweight showdown between Urijah Faber and Petr Yan, which will go down inside T-Mobile Arena.
Faber recently made his return from retirement this past July by knocking out Ricky Simon in the very first round at UFC Fight Night 155. And it took all of 46 seconds. The win was “The California Kid’s” second straight, though it was his first since 2016.
Soon thereafter, Faber (No. 14) started some friction with current UFC “champ-champ,” Henry Cejudo, in an attempt to goad him into defending his 135-pound strap. Of course, “Triple C” opted to undergo surgery, which sent him to the bench until 2020.
A win over Yan (No. 4) would surely shoot him up the rankings and get him closer to a shot the title.
Petr, meanwhile, has been on a tear since making his UFC debut in 2018, winning all five of his bouts inside the Octagon including wins over John Dodson and Jimmie Rivera. Yan himself has been campaigning for a shot at the title, and taking out “The California Kid” could be enough to get him there.
Early predictions?
UFC 245 is set to feature a trio of title fights, as Kamaru Usman will defend his Welterweight strap against Colby Covington in the headlining act, while Max Holloway puts his Featherweight strap up against Alexander Volkanovski. Furthermore, Amanda Nunes will put her women’s Bantamweight title on the line against Germaine de Randamie.
