Drink responsibly.

Urijah Faber is ditching collegiate beer pong for an Olympic calibre drinking game.

“The California Kid” spoke exclusively with Bloody Elbow about his ongoing rivarly with UFC bantamweight and flyweight champion Henry Cejudo. During the conversation, Faber reflected on a drinking game he once played with Lance Palmer and Adam Corrigan. “We used to play a drinking game: every time Henry Cejudo says ‘gold medal’ you take a shot. It gets you pretty hammered,” Faber chuckled.

Cejudo has been generating headlines for his cheesy remarks and cringey challenges to female UFC champions. Faber and Cejudo have been acquainted for more than a decade and the Team Alpha Male boss can confirm fans are seeing the real Cejudo. “He’s pretty similar,” Faber said. “He’s just taken himself and not been afraid to put it out there. If you look at that video I put out on our Instagram of us 10-years-ago, he’s a little bit awkward but a happy guy.”

“He’s a little cringey, but he has a good heart and obviously a fierce competitor. I think he’s doing a pretty good job of getting advice and getting his name out there,” he continued. “Who knows what he’s really thinking. He called me out and I won my big fight here in Sacramento. He’s been calling out girls ever since,” Faber said. “He doesn’t strike me as a domestic violence kind of guy. I think people know that he’s joking. What he’s really doing is getting a bunch of people talking about him, which is smart. Females with two-to-three-times as many followers are talking about him… Maybe he got some advice from Ariel [Helwani].”

A number of upper-level UFC bantamweights are calling for a fight with Faber. “The California Kid” has been mostly dismissive of challenges levied by the likes of Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling. “None of those guys, and this will put it in perspective for them so they can understand, have mentioned Song Yadong,” Faber argued. “There is a reason those guys don’t want to mention Song Yadong’s name. They can make the same argument. Look, Petr Yan, take a look at Song Yadong. He’s got four fights, three knockouts, three $50,000 bonuses. I don’t see you calling out that guy. I don’t see you calling out [Cory] Sandhagen. It’s the same reason why I don’t want to fight you.”

Faber hopes to have a fight scheduled for the end of 2019, but won’t rush things.
