Fabricio Guerreiro vs. Nick Piedmont pulled from Friday’s Bellator 132

The Bellator 132 official weigh-ins take place Thursday at the Cabaret Theater in Temecula, but Fabricio Guerreiro won’t need to cut to 145 pounds anymore.

Guerreiro, a former Bellator featherweight tournament semifinalist, was informed that his 145-pound clash with Nick Piedmont was removed from the fight card after the California Athletic Commission allegedly denied Piedmont a license to compete at the event.

To make it even worse, he won’t be paid a dime by the promotion.

“Five weeks ago, my manager insisted and got me a fight at Bellator. It was on short notice, but we took it,” Guerreiro posted on his Instagram. “One week later, they changed my opponent, but I stayed focused. The week after, they changed my opponent again because the other guy got ‘hurt’. This other guy also got hurt a week later, but I kept my focus.

“And now, five days before the fight, they tell me the California Athletic Commission wouldn’t let my opponent fight on Jan. 16. And that’s not everything: they told me they wouldn’t pay me anything. I had costs, paid for flight tickets, hotel, medical exams, and won’t make anything.”

Guerreiro last fought for Bellator in May, bouncing back to the win column with a first-round submission over Shahbulat Shamhalaev after suffering a unanimous decision loss to featherweight champion Patricio Freire at Bellator 103.

“I haven’t fought in 10 months and still have to pay for all this,” Guerreiro wrote. “I’m sorry if I let anyone down, but I’m doing my part. I’m working hard in the gym to get a good result in the fight, but unfortunately I’m not getting respect back. I’m ready to fight today, and I’m on weight, but I won’t be able to fight for you guys.”

Bellator 132 takes place at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, and is headlined by a featherweight championship bout between “Pitbull” Freire and Daniel Straus.
