A heavyweight bout appears to be in the works for this summer’s upcoming UFC event in Brazil as Fabricio Werdum (15-5-1) and Mike Russow (15-1, 1NC) are reportedly set to meet.

News of the bout was first reported by MMAFighting.com on Friday afternoon who notes that verbal agreements are in place between the two fighters.

The two will square off in June in the UFC’s second visit to Brazil in 2012. No exact date or event number has been identified for that show. The event will feature a middleweight title rematch between champion Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen.

Werdum made a successful return to the Octagon last month after defeating Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson via unanimous decision at UFC 143. The win put Werdum back into the win column after a decision loss to Alistair Overeem in their opening Strikeforce World Grand Prix heavyweight tournament bout last summer. Werdum was last in the Octagon as part of UFC 90 in a first round knockout loss to current heavyweight champ Junior dos Santos.

Russow is so far undefeated in the UFC having silently won four straight in the Octagon and eleven straight overall. The Chicago Police Officer earned a decision this past January over John-Olav Einemo at the UFC on Fox: Evans vs. Davis event. Previous wins for Russow also include stoppages of Jon Madsen and Todd Duffee, as well as a decision win over Justin McCully in Russow’s debut.
