Fabricio Werdum didn’t blame the pressure of fighting in front of 45,000 Brazilians as the reason for his loss to Stipe Miocic Saturday night at UFC 198.
Werdum, though, seemed to be a bit off as the fight got going, allowing himself to get caught chasing Miocic. What resulted as a hard right hand that dropped Werdum and cost him the title he unified last year with a submission over Cain Velasquez.
With Alistair Overeem the likely first challenger to Miocic, Werdum made sure to let it be known during the post-fight press conference that he wants a rematch as soon as possible.
“I want to come back better,” Werdum said. “I want to come back as soon as possible.”
The knockout loss will keep him sidelined for at least 30 days, and officials didn’t open up about future heavyweight plans.
Werdum made it known that he is coming for the title no matter what happens.
“I’m gonna come back better and I’m sure I’m going to win the belt again,” he said.
