Could it be possible that Fabricio Werdum vs. Fedor Emelianenko II actually takes place inside the world-famous Octagon, under the UFC banner? If you listen to both Fedor and Werdum, it definitely sounds like a possibility.
Fedor, who recently made his successful MMA fighting return under the Rizin FF banner in Japan, spoke with Epic MMA and claimed that he is in negotiations with the UFC and hopes to fight their heavyweight champion, Fabricio Werdum.
“We are in negotiations with the UFC,” Fedor said during the interview. “If there is desire, I will be ready to fight there. I would have interest in a rematch with the UFC heavyweight champion, Fabricio Werdum. I have several times told UFC, the bigwigs of UFC that I am ready to have this fight.”
Fedor continued, “I like to fight, I like to perform, but as far as who I would like to fight, I would like to fight the UFC champion.”
Meanwhile, Werdum, who defeated Fedor when the two last fought under the Strikeforce banner, forcing the legendary heavyweight to tap out in just 69 seconds to a triangle choke and ending his historic undefeated streak, claimed he too would like a second fight with Fedor.
“It will happen because it’s a fight that I really want,” Werdum told MMA Fighting. “I respect Fedor a lot, he’s an example in our world. I would give him this rematch, for sure.”
Werdum continued, “I have everything planned in my mind already. I have a vision. Nothing official, nothing from the UFC, only from my head — Fedor and I in a rematch at Chechnya. The president of Chechnya, (Ramzan) Kadyrov named me an ambassador in the country and he loves MMA, and it would be cool to take the UFC to Chechnya. Fedor and I, the main event of UFC Chechnya.”
Before he can headline UFC Chechnya against Fedor, Fabricio Werdum will headline UFC 198 in Curitiba, Brazil, as he defends the UFC Heavyweight Championship against Stipe Miocic live on pay-per-view.
