Bellator MMA held a special media gathering for Bellator 228’s top names, including “Pitbull” Patricio Freire and “The Spaniard” Juan Archuleta, as well as top Middleweight superstars Lyoto Machida and Gegard Mousasi. The highly-anticipated mixed martial arts (MMA) match ups will headline the DAZN-streamed event on Sat. Sept. 28, 2019, inside The Forum in Inglewood, California.
Freire is a “champ-champ” for the promotion who holds both the Featherweight and Lightweight belts, but only his 145-pound title will be on the line. Archuleta may be his toughest test to date as a still somewhat unheralded fighter despite being on an extremely impressive 18-fight win streak. The winner also advances in the Featherweight Grand Prix.
The always dangerous Mousasi will look to rebound from a world title loss in London and possibly avenge a 2014 loss in the process. Machida, on the other hand, is on a four-fight win streak and would surely be the No. 1 contender if he hands the former champion another loss.

Also getting their hands dirty at Bellator 228 will be six more Featherweight spread across three Grand Prix bouts. The undefeated “Mercenary” A.J. McKee will take on “Insane” Georgi Karakhanyan, former Bantamweight champ Darrion Caldwell faces Henry “K.O.” Corrales, and two time No. 1 contender Daniel Weichel faces Saul Rogers.
