On Monday, the Ultimate Fighting Championship revealed a couple of featherweight bouts for this August’s upcoming UFC 164 event pitting former contender Chad ‘Money’ Mendes (14-1) against Clay ‘The Carpenter’ Guida (30-13) and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier (13-3) versus Erik ‘New Breed’ Koch (13-2).
UFC 160 is expected to take place on August 31, 2013 at the HMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee.
Mendes has won three straight, bouncing back from the first loss of his career back at UFC 142 against division champ Jose Aldo. Since then he’s gone on to rattle off three first round (T)KO finishes. Most recently he finished Darren Elkins this past April at UFC on FOX 7.
Guida made his featherweight debut this past January, ending a two fight losing skid by defeating Hatsu Hioki via split decision at UFC on FOX 6.
Poirier dropped his last fight, losing by decision to Cub Swanson this past February at UFC on FUEL TV 7 putting his record at 1-2 in his last three.
Koch also suffered a loss in his last trip to the Octagon, losing via second round TKO to Ricardo Lamas at UFC on FOX 6. The defeat ended a four fight win streak for ‘New Breed.’
