Vladimir Voronov, a coach for Fedor Emelianenko, stated recently that the former heavyweight champion has returned to Stary Oskol to begin preparation for another fight.
“Fedor has gathered in Stary Oskol with the team,” Voronov said in an interview recently. “It is not only for physical fitness, but also to complete a camp.
“He is negotiating with all international organizations about the future of his career.”
Emelianenko (36-4) fought Fabio Maldonado in Russia earlier this year. He was awarded a controversial decision victory over the former UFC fighter, but the result remained the same despite post-fight protests by Maldonado.
He has fought under the RIZIN banner, and the Japanese-based company does like to put on a grand show around New Year’s Eve. They also have an open-weight tournament set to begin soon which “The Last Emperor” could be part of.
