Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president, Dana White, recently revealed that Tony Ferguson was going through several personal issues, preventing him from making his highly-anticipated return to the Octagon.
And now MMA Junkie has confirmed reports documenting unusual behavior from the former UFC interim Lightweight champion, which forced his wife to file a restraining order against “El Cucuy” in the past week.
While there were no acts of physical violence toward his wife Cristina or his children, the report did reveal a bizarre pattern of behavior from “El Cucuy” over the last couple of months, including inexplicably changing the locks on his doors.
Furthermore, there were reports of unspecified threats made by Ferguson, and that he was allegedly destroying his home at one point in time, citing a person being inside the walls. He also believed there was a computer chip implanted inside his leg.
His wife also placed multiple calls to police to express concern about his well being; however, Ferguson refused to seek a medical evaluation.
This is more than just being “weird,” and no doubt there will be talk of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) considering Ferguson has 27 professional fights, which doesn’t include his fights on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) or the amateur circuit.
“El Cucuy” hasn’t competed since defeating Anthony Pettis in a back-and-forth brawl at UFC 229 last October (highlights), and more recently turned down the opportunity to face Max Holloway for the interim strap at UFC 236 on April 13.
