UFC Fight Night: Fili v Jourdain

Andre Fili and Charles Jourdain faced each other in a Featherweight bout tonight (Sat., June 13, 2020) at UFC on ESPN 10 from inside UFC APEX from Las Vegas, Nevada. Following a fun, back-and-forth contest, Fili was awarded the decision victory.

Jourdain landed with an early blitz then got clipped by a jab. Another clean jab from Fili backed his foe off. Fili took a body kick, partially landed a high kick in return. Good left hook scored for Jourdain. Fili landed a right hand counter, again knocked his foe off-balance with a right high kick. Jab from Fili. Jourdain connected on a low kick. Ripping body kick counter scored for Fili. Fili stuck his foe with another jab. Both men blasted each other’s arms with kicks. Huge overhand connected for Jourdain, dropping Fili to his butt. Fili returned to his feet quickly, blasted a high kick into his foe’s guard. Fili countered with a big combination then slammed his foe on his head into the mat with a big slam near the bell.

Fili returned with an early counter high kick again to start the second. Jourdain connected low with a kick. The two continued trading loud kicks. Fili really hunted for the head kick counter. Southpaw cross connected for Fili, who then absorbed a spinning back fist. Clean right hand counter connected for Fili. Jourdain began to find more consistent success with his low kick. More good Southpaw punches connected for Fili, followed by a solid right hook. Jab counter scored for Fili, then the two traded kicks yet again. Two clean low kicks scored for Jourdain, but FIli returned fire with a high kick. Fili ducked under a punch and scored a clean double leg takedown. Jourdain returned to his feet quickly, but he ate a counter right before the bell.

Jourdain opened up the third with a few heavy, but blocked, kicks. Left hook-high kick scored well for Fili. Fili traded a jab for a low kick, then dug into the thigh himself. Both men connected on stiff crosses. Body shot scored heavy for Fili. Joudain missed with a flying knee, ate a couple counter punches. Fili dropped down into a double leg and put his foe on his back for a third time. Fili advanced into side control then to the turtle. Jourdain stood up and was slammed back down. Jourdain’s second stand up proved more successful. Fili connected with a hard body kick. Southpaw jabs from Fili. Low kick scored for Jourdain. Jourdain landed an overhand then ate a jab. Fili shot with a takedown, but this time Jourdain used the fence to stay up. Moments later, Fili scored a takedown and quickly moved into side control. Fili wrapped up the wrist and fired punches until the bell.

This bout was advertised as a competitive and exciting battle, and it lived up to the hype! Both men traded big shots, but Fili survived a knockdown to demonstrate his kickboxing experience and pull out a few important takedowns. Jourdain came up short, but the Canadian definitely showed his talent!

Result: Andre Fili defeats Charles Jourdain via split-decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
