Last Friday night, UFC lightweight Yves ‘Thugjitsu Master’ Edwards (41-18-1) went through his usual preparations for a fight, having his hands wrapped and performing his pre-fight warm up, only to be told 30-minutes before the scheduled match that his fight with Jeremy Stephens would not be happening.
Stephens was arrested in Minneapolis, Minnesota the morning of the event on an outstanding warrant from a 2011 incident in Idaho.
UFC president Dana White praised Edwards professionalism, awarding him his show money and promising to get him a fight as soon as possible.
White has apparently made good on that promise, booking Edwards into a lightweight fight with John Cholish (8-2) for this December’s UFC on FOX 5 show.
MMAFighting.com reported the news this morning, confirming the bout with sources close to the event.
UFC on Fox: Henderson vs. Diaz is expected to take place on December 8, 2012 at KeyArena in Seattle, Washington.
Edwards enters the bout on a loss and is 1-2 in his last three fights. When Edwards finally steps back into the cage it will be a year since his last fight, a decision loss to Tony Ferguson at the TUF 14 Finale. His last victory took place in October 2011 at UFC on Versus 6 with a second round TKO win over Rafaello Oliveira. Edwards was scheduled to meet Donald Cerrone at UFC on FUEL TV 3 but was forced out with an injury.
Cholish suffered the second defeat of his career, losing a decision to Danny Castillo at UFC on FOX 3. Cholish debuted in the Octagon in December of last year at UFC 140, beating Mitch Clarke via second round TKO to extend his win streak to eight straight. Three of those wins came via (T)KO, four by submission and one by decision.
