While much of the focus regarding Cain Velasquez’s bid for the UFC
heavyweight title at this weekend’s UFC 121 event has centered around
the challenger’s prospects of becoming the promotion’s first Mexican
heavyweight champion, he refuses to
let the expectations of a nation weigh him down.
Sure, Velasquez is proud of his heritage (witness his
oft-discussed “Brown Pride” tattoo).
But when he faces Brock Lesnar Saturday at UFC 121, the 28-year-old believes it will be his work ethic
– and not his ethnicity – that will be tested.
