During tonight’s Fuel TV episode of “UFC Tonight” former UFC featherweight contender Mark ‘The Machine’ Hominick (20-12) officially announced his retirement from the sport of mixed martial arts.
“UFC 154 was my last fight in the Octagon…I’m moving on to the next phase of my career…Fighting against (Jose) Aldo for the title…I felt like I was competing in obscurity before that fight.”
Hominick makes his retirement following four straight losses inside the Octagon, having lost his last match this past November in Montreal at UFC 154. ‘The Machine’ would go three rounds against Pablo Garza, taking the first round but would come up short in the next two as ‘The Scarecrow’ used his height to score points against the former title contender.
The three other losses in that stretch for the Canadian came at the hands of Eddie Yagin, at UFC 145 via split decision, versus Chan Sung Jung, at UFC 140 via seven-second knockout, and versus UFC champ Jose Aldo at UFC 129 via decision back in April 2011 at the first Toronto event.
That loss to Aldo ended a five fight win streak for Hominick who picked up his third Octagon win, in his third run with the promotion, at UFC Fight for the Troops 2 against George Roop.
Other key victories in his career include wins against Yves Edwards, Yves Jabouin, Leonard Garcia and Jorge Gurgel.
