There has been talk about the UFC putting together a “grudge match” between Frank Mir (14-5) and Brock Lesnar now that he has lost his title to Cain Velasquez last month.
Mir is coming off a main event win over former PRIDE champion Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovi? at UFC 119. The loss erased a recent knockout defeat to Shane Carwin at UFC 111 in March.
For Mir, a third fight with Lesnar doesn’t make sense to him at this time, instead he’d prefer to face “The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights” finalist Brendan Schaub instead.
“(A fight against Brock Lesnar) Honestly right now, probably no. Just because the (Shane) Carwin fight, (Lesnar) didn’t look all that spectacular. I think a lot of people might have thought that he lost that fight. And then the (Cain) Velasquez fight obviously, Velasquez made (Brock) basically shout ‘Stop, Enough, Enough’ before he tapped due to strikes and that looked really bad.”
“Right now I’m coming a win off of Mirko (Cro Cop), I would maybe like to see me get another win and (Brock) himself redeem himself, so that way it’s more relevant to the division. Not just having the third fight for the sake of having the third fight. But having it to where it actually has some substance so that whoever wins will position themselves for a title shot. I think it has a lot more meaning that way.”
