Gilbert Burns will look to score the biggest win of his mixed martial arts (MMA) when he takes on Tyron Woodley in the main event of UFC on ESPN 9, set to go down this Saturday (May 30, 2020) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Before then, let’s take a trip down memory lane to see his most recent win over Demian Maia. In March of this year, the two Brazilian standouts squared off at UFC Fight Night 170. After scoring an early takedown, Maia quickly looked for a submission, though Burns was quick to defend and bring the action back to the feet. Undeterred, Maia once again scored another takedown and proceeded to attempt a rear-naked choke, which was also defended well.

Once back on the feet, it didn’t take long for Burns to land a sweet left hook that dropped Maia. After hesitating for a bit, and perhaps celebrating prematurely, “Durinho” pounced on his downed opponent and went Donkey Kong on him until the referee put an end to the beating.

The win was Burns’ fourth in a row, setting him up for a chance to get closer to a title shot if he can score a win in his pivotal bout against “The Chosen One,” who is looking for his first win since dropping his belt over a year ago.
