In just a matter of a week reigning UFC flyweight champion Henry Cejudo will try to become a true double champ when he takes on Marlon Moraes at UFC 238 on June 8 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside United Center in Chicago, Illinois, for the vacant bantamweight strap.
Cejudo, who defended his 125-pound title opposite former UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw with a 32-second TKO finish back in January, is moving back up to 135 pounds for the first time since his Octagon debut in 2014. “Messenger” is hoping to win his second UFC title and take control over a leader-less bantamweight division.
In preparation for Cejudo’s showdown with Moraes next weekend, UFC has opened up its vault and released Cejudo’s 2018 victory over Demetrious Johnson (shown in the above video player). The bout took place at UFC 227 and featured five hard-fought rounds between both fighters. In the end, Cejudo outlasted “Mighty Mouse” to earn the split decision and claim the seemingly unattainable UFC flyweight title.
That victory remains the greatest of Cejudo’s impressive MMA career, but a win over Moraes at UFC 238 could be just as big considering “Messenger” is on the cusp of simultaneously holding two UFC titles. It’s a feat rarely achieved in today’s sport and an accomplishment that could further push Cejudo into the discussion of pound-for-pound best fighters.
