Justin Gaethje was unpleasantly surprised by Donald Cerrone being above him in the UFC’s official rankings.

UFC lightweight contender Justin Gaethje scored a second consecutive first-round knockout win, this time against Edson Barboza. Currently ranked number eight in the UFC’s official rankings, “The Highlight” has some questions as to how things came about, especially with Donald Cerrone being ranked higher than him at number seven.

“UFC, what the hell are you thinking moving Donald Cerrone in front of me?” Gaethje said during his Octagon interview with Jon Anik. “He beat the number 15 guy and he just gets to jump ahead of me? You guys are crapping on every bit of… This is ridiculous.

“But, hey, on to the next one. There’s five or six guys in front of me, I want each and every one of them.”

Gaethje reiterated the same sentiments during his backstage interview with Megan Olivi.

“It’s just crazy to me to see these things happen, but I’m gonna go to war for myself,” he said. “They will pay me what I want to get paid, they will give me the fights I want. I deserve that now.”

The UFC’s rankings are compiled and aggregated by a media panel that currently consists of 14 members.

Gaethje’s win on Saturday night also marks his fifth straight post-fight bonus, this time for Fight of the Night.
