Fast-rising lightweight contender Mateusz Gamrot, currently ranked No. 5 at 155 pounds, is hoping to secure his place among the division elite by throwing down against former champion Charles Oliveira at one of the promotion’s upcoming pay-per-view (PPV) events later this year.

Unfortunately, it sounds like “Do Bronx” is more interested in answering the call of Colby Covington at welterweight.

“I asked to fight Oliveira, but he called out Colby instead,” Gamrot wrote on Twitter. “Guy who only fights once a year and is 2-3 since 2019. We thought you were better than that, Charles. You know I’ll give you fire on the ground. But maybe that’s why you’d rather fight Colby.”

Covington is the one who first called out Oliveira; however, the Brazilian appears to be contemplating the matchup.

Gamrot (24-2, 1 NC) is the winner of three straight, fresh off his unanimous decision victory over Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 299 last March. As for Oliveira (34-10, 1 NC), he’s coming off a split decision loss to Arman Tsaruykyan at UFC 300 just a few weeks back, dropping him to 2-3 across his last five.

“Do Bronx” has yet to respond to Gamrot’s tweet.
