Gegard, however, insists the big “Dragon” isn’t a bad person.
Gegard Mousasi doesn’t want to say “I told you so,” but he told you so.
Prior to Lyoto Machida revealing to the mixed martial arts (MMA) world — and more importantly United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) — that he was unknowingly taking a banned substance, Gegard was quick to accuse “The Dragon” of living foul.
As he declared, he had ample opportunities to do damage on Lyoto, but when he had good position on him, he just kept slipping away during their 2014 middleweight scrap, one that Machida won via unanimous decision.
But now that it’s come to light that Machida was taking a banned substance, Gegard feels like justice has been served. Still, he tells The MMA Hour that he finds it odd that he is still getting hate from some of Machida’s supporters for simply telling the truth.
“At first I got angry, but I don’t see him as a bad guy. I see what I see and I say what I think. I felt it, I felt he was slippery. If I say things I know are the truth, people are still going to complain. If you don’t like the truth, then what, you want me to tell you something you like because you want to hear it? ‘Oh, Machida he beat me, he’s such a fair fighter.’ I don’t know what people want to hear. They do not like to hear the truth, they are so stupid, I don’t know. It’s ridiculous, of course the USADA testing is coming so people aren’t going to use the typical steroids, they are going to use replacements. I’m not a rocket scientist, but I knew that was a banned substance, so, he should have known, also. Plus, that supplement doesn’t do nothing for you probably. From what I have read, it’s for old people. I don’t know, I just think that justice is served. But, I am still getting hate from all the ‘Little Dragons’ on the computer. So I don’t know what to say to them, they are morons. It’s a fact, he was caught and it’s a bad supplement and it’s a fact that he cheated. Simple as that.”
The substance in question is 7-Keto, which contains DHEA and is on the prohibited list.
Machida’s admission to USADA — which came during a surprise test — ultimately got him pulled form his rematch against Dan Henderson, which was supposed to go down at UFC on FOX 19 last month.
And you can’t help but sympathize with Gegard, as his loss to Lyoto cost him his six-fight win streak. Whether or not he was on a banned substance at that time, is another story.
For now, it seems Gegard has gotten the last laugh, despite the fact he still doesn’t see Machida as a bad person. That’s because Lyoto will likely face a lengthy suspension while Mousasi gets to take part in the biggest pay-per-view (PPV) event of the year as he faces Derek Brunson at UFC 200 on July 9, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
