Middleweight contenders Gegard Mousasi and Derek Brunson are on course to fight each other at the big UFC 200 pay-per-view in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A big middleweight matchup is planned for the UFC’s big July pay-per-view. Not too long after Derek Brunson tweeted that “fight news was coming soon,” FOX Sports reported that Brunson is expected to fight Gegard Mousasi at UFC 200. The UFC has not officially announced the fight booking themselves.

Brunson (15-3) ran roughshod over Roan Carneiro in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night in Pittsburgh on February 21st. Each of Brunson’s last three fights have ended in a 1st round TKO, with none of them lasting longer than 2:38. His only loss in the UFC is by 3rd round TKO to Yoel Romero back in January 2014.

Mousasi (38-6-2) dominated Thales Leites in the UFC Fight Night co-main event in London just a week after Brunson’s win over Carneiro. Gegard’s unanimous decision victory improved his UFC middleweight record to 4-2 and got him back on track after a shocking knockout loss to Uriah Hall last September.

In the current UFC rankings, Brunson is 11th and Mousasi is 9th, so while Mousasi would’ve liked to fight Michael Bisping or Anderson Silva, he’s in line to face someone ranked two spots below him. It will, however, serve as a big test for Brunson’s title shot aspirations.

UFC 200 is scheduled for July 9th at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The other reported fight for this card is a heavyweight matchup between former champion Cain Velasquez and Travis Browne.
