George Kambosos Jr. scored a monumental upset over Teofimo Lopez to become the new unified lightweight champion courtesy of a split judging decision.
The Australian dropped Lopez in the first round before being dropped himself in the 10th. Kambosos was able to climb off the canvas and continue his good work before ultimately getting the win from two of the three ringside judges who scored the fight115-112 and 115-111, while a third judge scored it 114-113 to the Brooklyn fighter.

Lopez took to social media after suffering his first professional boxing loss and appeared in good spirits despite everything.
“Thank you all for the love and support tonight,” Lopez wrote on Twitter. “I’m grateful for you all and I know God has his plans set for me. They can punch me high, kick me low. It’s going to take more than that to break my soul! God bless everyone and Happy Holidays. See you all back in the ring in 2022.”
