Initial reports of the imminent return of former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre may have been a bit premature, according to the man himself.

Earlier today, a Quebec radio station reported that Georges St-Pierre would be officially announcing his return to the UFC in the next few days. This caused quite the frenzy, as can be expected when one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the history of MMA appeared to be making a triumphant return.

Unfortunately for fans, it appears that the report was a tad premature. When MMA Fighting contacted GSP to confirm the report, he shot it down:

“I can tell you with certainty that their their sources are not reliable.”

His manager Rodolphe Beaulieu was also contacted and shared similar sentiments:

“[There are] still a lot of things that need to happen before he decides if he comes back or not.”

His manager did not clarify what those things were. This isn’t the first GSP comeback rumor that has caught fire recently – a recent tweet by Under Armour, who St-Pierre has a sponsorship deal with, made it seem like he was coming back earlier this month. But that was quickly shot down as well.

The former UFC welterweight champion hasn’t competed since a split-decision win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in late 2013.
