Georges St-Pierre was very gracious about his pending Hall of Fame induction, as always. But he was initially speechless.

On Saturday night during UFC 249, the UFC surprised many by announcing the first entry into the Hall of Fame class of 2020 – and it’s a Canadian legend, Georges St-Pierre. After running a very good video package that encapsulated GSP’s career, UFC president Dana White actually called GSP to talk to him. And as you can see below, St-Pierre was speechless during the call:

A little while later, the former two-division champion composed himself well enough to offer a gracious thank you on Twitter:

“It’s a great honour to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. I want to thank Lorenzo & Frank Fertitta, Dana White, the UFC team, my family, coaches, teammates, sponsors, & all other collaborators, my opponents, & my fans. This amazing journey wouldn’t have been possible without you.”

St-Pierre will enter the “modern wing” of the HOF. He joins BJ Penn, Forrest Griffin, Urijah Faber, Ronda Rousey, Michael Bisping, and Rashad Evans in that section. It doesn’t seem like there will be a physical ceremony this year due to the coronavirus pandemic (GSP can’t even get into the US right now due to the border being closed), but we’ll just have to see.
