Gennady Golovkin (40-1-1, 35 KOs) regained middleweight gold last night (Sat., Oct. 5, 2019) live on DAZN from inside Madison Square Garden in New York City, N.Y., when he outlasted Serhiy Derevianchenko (13-2, 10 KOs) via unanimous decision to capture the vacant IBF and IBO middleweight straps.
While Golovkin opened up a cut on Derevianchenko early into the fight, Derevianchenko was still able to calm down and really take it to “GGG.” Golovkin would return the favor to score rounds later into the fight but it seemed as if Derevianchenko might have gotten the best out of the former champ. In the end, Golovkin was able to do enough to sway the judges and walk away with the unanimous decision (114-113, 115-112 x2).
