Glover Teixeira’s manager says fighter is not yet cleared to meet Rashad Evans

On Thursday, Brazilian outlet Globo reported that a bout between former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans and Glover Teixeira has been verbally agreed upon for the main event of UFC Fight Night 61 on Feb. 22 in Porto Allegre, Brazil.

However, Teixeira’s manager, Jorge Guimaraes, has called the report premature. Guimaraes says that Teixeira, who was medically suspended after his UFC 179 loss to Phil Davis, has yet to be cleared to return to competition by Brazil’s athletic commission.

“Glover hasn’t even been cleared to fight on that date yet by the athletic commission due to his injuries,” Guimaraes told MMAFighting.com‘s Ariel Helwani.

Assuming Teixeira (22-4) is soon cleared to compete, the bout will be Teixeira’s opportunity to snap a two-fight losing streak, as he dropped unanimous decisions to Jon Jones and Davis. Evans (19-3-1) will fight for the first time since UFC 167, when he made short work of Chael Sonnen.
