Dana White shared Alistair Overeem’s horrific lip injury after UFC DC’s main event.

Usually things cannot get any worse for a fighter than being knocked out in the last seconds of a fight you were winning, but they did for Alistair Overeem at UFC DC. Not only did the ‘Reem’ got caught by Jairzinho Rozenstruik with only four seconds left in the fifth round of the night’s main event, but he also suffered one of the gnarliest lip cuts in the sport.

Much like Robbie Lawler’s lip after his rematch with Rory MacDonald at UFC 189, but much deeper, Overeem’s gash will need a nice stitching job to join both sides together again. On Twitter, UFC president shared a picture of the wound, and it’s not a pleasant sight to see. Discretion is advised.

Later on, the UFC’s official account shared a different photo, in which you can see all the through the cut to Overeem’s teeth. Again, discretion is advised.

Had he managed to go the distance (and barring 10-8s from the two judges who had him up 39-37), Alistair Overeem would have finished 2019 on a three-fight winning streak, adding Jairzinho’s name to a list that already had TKO victories over both Sergei Pavlovich, in November 2018, and Alexey Oleynik back in April. Instead, he’s been knocked out for the 12th time in his MMA career.
