A rundown of the biggest headlines and news from the world of competitive grappling.

Another week, another new grappling promotion. It looks like the UFC have capitalized on the strength of Quintet and will be streaming a new team grappling promotion live on Fight Pass.

Kinektic will be holding their first show in Anaheim on August 16 and the tournament features teams captained by familiar names. UFC veterans Chael Sonnen, Anthony Smith and Chris Lytle will all be at the helm of teams.

In addition to the UFC stars, BJJ ace Craig Jones will also be captaining a team which features some of the best names in grappling including Lachlan Giles, Edwin Najmi and unheralded super prospect Nicky Rodriguez.

While it remains to be seen who Sonnen, Smith and Lytle recruit for their teams, it’s going to take something special to beat Craig Jones and his BJJFantics line up.

GRAPPLING STORIES

Craig Fallon an inquest has ruled that the death of former judo world champion Craig Fallon is not suspicious. The 36-year-old’s body was found in woods near the Wrekin, Shropshire, on 15 July. Fallon was only the 3rd man from Britain ever to become a world champion in judo.

F2W 119 JT Torres showed just how good he is when he made his return to the mats at Fight 2 Win 119. Torres, an ADCC champ, hasn’t competed as regularly lately, faced off with UFC vet Vagner Rocha in the main event and looked great on his way to a decision victory. Rocha has been on a tear as of late so this is a huge scalp for Torres.

Paddy Pimblett is stepping up and taking on UFC fighter Stevie Ray at Polaris 11. Pimblett is a well-respected former Cage Warriors champ, but Ray is a much more accomplished grappler and mixed martial artist. This one should be interesting.
