Chael Sonnen’s Submission Underground is back.

Chael Sonnen’s Submission Underground is back and it has found a new home.

The 8th iteration of “SUG” is set to go down on May 12th and instead of streaming on Flograppling.com, SUG will be airing live on UFC Fight Pass. SUG is known for stacking its cards with MMA stars and its debut on Fight Pass will feature more of the same. The card is scheduled to be headlined by Jake Shields vs. Bellator’s unbeaten standout Austin Vanderford.

While Shields is a far more accomplished grappler on paper, Vanderford has shown some strong grappling skills in his MMA thus far and is in his fighting prime. The co-main event will see UFC veterans Diego Sanchez and Jake Ellenberger face off in what could be an interesting match-up. Sanchez has a really strong BJJ background and has to be considered the favorite in that match. Elsewhere on the card, Frank Mir faces off against Gracie Barra’s Fabiano Scherner.

GRAPPLING FEATURES

Rape accusations have been made against former Bellator MMA fighter and current BJJ stand out Aaron Tex Johnson. Johnson recently scored the biggest victory of his career thus far against Felipe Pena, but shockingly announced the next day that he had decided to go to rehab. Accusations were made against Johnson shortly after he was admitted to rehab.

Grapple at the Garden is set to feature an epic showdown between Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs and two-time Hodge trophy winner Ben Askren. While Askren has focused on MMA primarily for the last decade, he is an accomplished wrestler, but Burroughs has to be considered a strong favorite.

Keenan leaves Atos. Keenan Cornelius has announced that he has left Atos and will be training himself until further notice. While the exact reasons for the split are unclear, Keenan revealed that Andre Galvao has asked him to leave the famed academy.
