The man known as ‘The Crotchet Boss’ is no longer with the UFC.
Maurice “The Crotchet Boss” Greene is no longer on the UFC roster.
The heavyweight fighter took to social media on Tuesday evening to announce that he was released from the promotion just days after losing a unanimous decision to Marcos Rogerio de Lima at UFC Vegas 26. In a brief statement posted on Instagram, Greene wrote that he is remaining optimistic despite the release and looks forward to rebuilding under a new banner.
“When one door closes another one opens,” wrote Greene. “I have had ups and downs with the #ufc and today that relationship comes to an end. Look at the bright side I’m still in the best shape of my life. I’m physically and mentally #stronger than ever and the next chapter I am excited for. This game is unforgiving but hey I’m down for the challenge of making my name with a new promotion or the road back. The best is yet to come.”
After competing on the regional scene for several years, Greene was tapped to be a competitor on The Ultimate Fighter: Heavy Hitters in 2018. He joined the UFC after completing his stint on the show and successfully debuted at The Ultimate Fighter: Heavy Hitters Finale, where he submitted Michel Batista with a triangle choke in the first round.
He went on to defeat Jeff Hughes and Junior Albini at UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Dos Santos and UFC on ESPN: Ngannou vs. Dos Santos respectively before facing some adversity in his next two fights. Greene was knocked out by Sergei Pavlovich at UFC Fight Night: Maia vs. Askren and then submitted by Aleksei Oleinik at UFC 246.
Greene rebounded from those losses with a third-round submission win over Gian Villante at UFC on ESPN: Poirier vs. Hooker, but the return to the win column was short-lived. He suffered a knockout loss to Greg Hardy at UFC Fight Night: Hall vs. Silva and was recently defeated by the aforementioned De Lima.
The 34-year-old sees his run with the UFC come to a close with a record of 4-4 in the Octagon.
