UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre (21-2) is scheduled to appear in Toronto, Ontario today as part of the UFC’s fan event at the Rogers Centre for UFC 129, which takes place on April 30. GSP is scheduled to meet Jake Shields in the main event of the UFC’s first visit to that city.
With UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva’s win over Vitor Belfort this past weekend promotion President Dana White has come out saying that he plans on making a GSP vs. Silva ‘Super-fight’ happen later this year, barring a win by the Canadian over Shields in April.
In a recent interview with CP24 Breakfast (click the link for the video interview) on Tuesday morning, a local media outlet in Toronto, St-Pierre and fellow Canadian Mark Hominick were in studio to talk about UFC 129 and their upcoming fights.
St-Pierre was asked for his thoughts on a potential fight with Silva and offered this as a response.
“Everyone talks about it for a long time even in my last fight before (against Josh Koscheck), but the truth is it is a big distraction to me and it would be foolish for me to think past Jake Shields cause Jake Shields is the most dangerous guy right now. I need to focus 100% on Jake Shields and the future I don’t know what will happen but right now I need to take care of business with Jake Shields. I am going to have my hands full with him.”
