A knee injury to UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre (22-2) has sidelined him from an upcoming title fight with challenger Carlos Condit (27-5) in the main event of UFC 137.
UFC President Dana White announced the news on Twitter (@DanaWhite) on Tuesday afternoon, noting that instead of taking a new opponent Condit is choosing to wait for the champ to get better.
“I just land in NYC and what do I always say!? I have to deal with bad shit everyday!! GSP is out with an injury!!! #oneofthosedays. It’s GSP’S knee. We will sit Carlos to wait for GSP. It’s looking so far like he could be ready in a couple months. Still early to tell tho”
White also upgraded the co-main event bout between BJ Penn (16-7-2) and former Strikeforce champ Nick Diaz (25-7), to the main event of UFC 137. Their bout will be three rounds and not five.
White also noted that former contender Josh Koscheck had offered to take the fight with Condit on 10-days notice, but as stated, ‘The Natural Born Killer’ has chosen to waiting for St-Pierre rather than taking the fight.
UFC 137 is less than two weeks away and is scheduled to take place on Oct. 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
