Clay Guida and Michael Johnson faced off in a Lightweight clash tonight (Sat., Feb. 6, 2021) inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada at UFC Vegas 18.

Guida opened the fight flashing his jab, and Johnson returned fire with his lead hand. Guida scored a solid low kick. Johnson landed flush with a left hand counter. These two did not waste time to start trading big shots, and both were landing! Guida connected on a high kick then ducked into a takedown counter to a knee attempt. It takes a moment, but “The Carpenter” completed the shot! Guida threatened the guillotine choke briefly, but Johnson popped back up. Good knee from Johnson. Another, but he ate a left hook afterward. The two traded powerful swings, but neither man was stunned before the bell ended the opening round.

The frantic pace continued into the second, and Guida’s overhand found a home at a good rate. The veteran then scored his second takedown of the fight. Johnson worked back to his feet reasonably quickly, but he was stuck along the fence with Guida pressing at his hips. Johnson escaped at roughly the midway point in the round and landed a knee and several hard punches, prompting another shot from Guida. Johnson stuffed the shot, another, and then tried for his own takedown that landed him in the clinch yet again. Guida landed a few knees before the two separated. Guida pressed, landed a few strikes, then shot again into the cage. The round ended in that position.

Guida pressed forward with a combination early, but both landed when Johnson fired back counters. Johnson threw more volume, and he landed more as a result. Guida dumped him to his butt along the fence yet again. Johnson wall-walked back up, and the two largely stalemated along the fence … until Guida landed a couple cool back elbows. Guida fully dragged his foe down and took the back! The choke slid under the neck! Johnson fought the top hand, preventing his opponent from finishing the strangle. Guida still finished the round from back mount, wrapping up the decision in the process.

Damn, this was vintage Clay Guida. “The Carpenter” was all energy and offense from the first bell, and he simply stayed on Johnson until opportunities opened up. In particular, his overhand looked especially accurate.

Result: Clay Guida defeats Michael Johnson via unanimous decision
