HBO Boxing purses: Gennady Golovkin $2 million, Dominic Wade $500,000

Check out the fighter purses for tonight’s HBO World Championship Boxing card, headlined by world #1 middleweight Gennady Golovkin against Dominic Wade.

The good news is that Gennady Golovkin is returning to HBO Boxing tonight. Unfortunately, it just had to be opposite UFC 197, AKA the return of one Jon Jones. Not to worry, we have you covered for both the UFC and boxing throughout the weekend, including the purse info for all of the televised HBO combatants.

Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) is putting his middleweight belts on the line against IBF challenger Dominic Wade (18-0, 12 KOs). Wade is replacing #1 IBF mandatory contender Tureano Johnson, who opted for shoulder surgery. Meanwhile, arguable #1 P4P fighter in the world Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (44-0, 38 KOs) will defend his WBC flyweight (112 lbs) title against Puerto Rico’s McWilliams Arroyo (16-2, 14 KOs).

$2 million is the same amount that Golovkin received against David Lemieux in his PPV debut last October. Against Willie Monroe Jr, GGG had a $1.5 million purse. All of GGG’s seven-figure paydays have happened from 2015-2016, and this is only his 5th year as a regular fighter on US TV. He also recently signed a sponsorship deal with Nike’s Jordan Brand. As for Wade, he is almost guaranteed to get crushed, but this is surely a career payday for him.

Gonzalez’s $300,000 is a new career-high payday for him. Last year, he had a $250,000 purse for his TKO win over Brian Viloria, in the GGG-Lemieux PPV co-main event. That was a $50,000 increase from his win against Edgar Sosa, which co-headlined Golovkin’s win over Monroe. Arroyo has never appeared on an HBO televised event before, which is not surprising, as the 112 lbs division is seldom featured on most boxing platforms in the US.
