HBO World Championship Boxing Ward vs. Barrera airs live on HBO this Saturday, March 26 with a fight time of 9:45 p.m. ET. Bloody Elbow will have live fight coverage, including results and discussion, right here.

This fight is all about the return of Andre Ward. In 2010-2012, the undefeated Ward established himself as one of the very best boxers in the world – a superb ring technician who had masterfully made the move from Olympian to world champion. He dominated in the Super Six tournament, looked incredible in his win over Chad Dawson, and was poised to be a true great. But in the past three and a half years he has fought only twice. Between injuries, reported but unverified injuries, and a lengthy legal battle with his former (now deceased) promoter, Ward’s boxing career in the past years has seemingly focused on everything but boxing. He’s now back, and this is a tune up fight before a much anticipated clash with Sergey Kovalev later this year. Barrera is not a can of an opponent, and comes in off a solid win over Karo Murat. Ward is the obvious favorite, but we’ve seen far worse mismatches in the past.

Opening the broadcast is Joseph Diaz Jr. vs. Jayson Velez in a Featherweight fight. Good fight here between two Featherweights just outside the top 10. Velez comes in here off the first loss of his career – a decision defeat at the hands of the talented Ronny Rios in November. Diaz is undefeated and considered one of Golden Boy’s big prospects. He looks to keep that momentum going as he moves up the ladder in his HBO debut.
