Heavyweight fighter Gabriel Gonzaga (11-6) has been released by the Ultimate Fighting Championship following his second straight loss with the promotion.
Gonzaga made the announcement on his Twitter page.
Official now – Out of UFC – Thanks for all your support – back to normal life and BJJ forever
The Brazilian made his debut with the promotion back in November of 2005 at UFC 56, where he KO’d Kevin Jordan in the third round of their bout. Gonzaga would put together another three wins including a No. 1 contender bout over Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic at UFC 70. He’d then go on to face Randy Couture at UFC 74 for the UFC heavyweight title only to lose by TKO in the third round.
That would be the last time Gonzaga would fight for the UFC title but the Brazilian would fight 7 more times. Overall he’d go 7-5 in the UFC, but only managed a 3-5 record in his last eight.
His last appearance was at UFC 121 against Brendan Schaub where he dropped a unanimous decision to the TUF 10 finalist. The loss before was to Junior dos Santos who KO’d Gonzaga at UFC Live: Vera vs. Jones in March.
