Heavyweight fighter Joey ‘The Mexicutioner’ Beltran (13-7) has been released by the Ultimate Fighting Championship following a loss this weekend at the UFC on FOX 2 card in Chicago, Illinois.

Beltran was knocked out by former Strikeforce fighter Lavar ‘Big’ Johnson in the first round of their opening prelim match on FUEL TV. The KO was the first such loss for Beltran whose recent record was 1-4, and just 3-4 overall in the UFC.

‘The Mexicutioner’ confirmed the news on Twitter (@mexicutioner760) Wednesday evening, promising fans that he would be back at a “new weight class.”

The loss to Johnson was his second in a row, which included a decision lose to Stipe Micic at UFC 136. His last win took place in June of 2011, when he stopped Aaron Rosa via third round TKO at UFC 131.
