Talk about your rotten luck.
Just hours before he was to face Daniel Gallemore at Bellator 113 in Kansas City, heavyweight Maurice Jackson was scrapped from the card with a knee injury. Jackson was scheduled to face Gallemore on the prelims on Friday night at the Kansas Star Arena.
Bellator officials informed MMA Fighting that Jackson slipped on a wet floor at the fighter hotel while getting breakfast on Friday morning. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Meanwhile, Bellator 113 will proceed with nine bouts, featuring light heavyweight champion Attila Vegh versus Emanuel Newton in the main event. Also fighting on the card are lightweights David Rickels and Patricky Freire.
Jackson (2-1-3) was victorious in his Bellator debut back in October, when he defeated Matt Udhe via TKO just under a minute into the bout.
UPDATE: Bellator announced on its Twitter feed that Wichita’s own Fredrick Brown (4-0) has agreed to step in to face Gallemore. “Brown is a big name in the area and will be looking to cash in on a huge opportunity taking the fight on less than 12 hours notice,” Bellator’s Director of Communication Anthony Mazzuca tweeted Friday afternoon.
