A heavyweight tilt between former UFC heavyweight contender Gabriel Gonzaga (13-6) and undefeated Strikeforce fighter Shane ‘No Limits’ del Rosario (11-0) has been added to May’s UFC 146 event.
“…the fists are likely to be flying as well in heavyweight action, as former Strikeforce big man Shane Del Rosario puts his unbeaten record on the line against former world title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga.
UFC 146 is expected to take place on May 26, 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and is likely to feature a heavyweight title bout between Junior dos Santos vs. Alistair Overeem.
Gonzaga was released from the UFC after a loss to Brendan Schaub at UFC 121 and had stated that he would only compete in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments via Twitter. It wasn’t long till he put the gloves back, on winning a bout last October in Connecticut. He was then asked to step in as a replacement for Rob Broughton for this past January’s UFC 142 event, where he picked up a first round submission win over Ednaldo Oliveira. Gonzaga’s record is now 8-5 in the Octagon.
Del Rosario returns to fighting after a car accident last summer which saw his vehicle hit from behind by an impaired driver. Del Rosario suffered from back pains and was forced out of a bout with Daniel Cormier at the Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum card. ‘No Limits’ is undefeated in his mma career with three wins in the Strikeforce cage beating Lavar Johnson, Lolohea Mahe, and Brandon Cash. Del Rosario has finished every opponent he’s faced as a pro by TKO or by submission.
