A heavyweight bout between Stefan ‘Skyscraper’ Struve (25-5) and the ‘Super Samoan’ Mark Hunt (8-7) appears to be back in the books as the two have reportedly agreed to meet in March at the upcoming UFC on FUEL TV 8 show in Japan.
Verbal agreements are in place according to MMAWeekly.com.
UFC on Fuel TV 8 is expected to take place on March 3, 2013 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The Struve vs. Hunt bout is certain to appear on the main card and could headline or co-headline the television event.
Both fighters were announced as opponents for this past May’s UFC 146 show but an injury to Hunt forced the fighter to withdraw from the match.
Struve fought in the main event of the UFC on FUEL TV 5 event this past September, picking up a second round TKO victory over Stipe Miocic in Nottingham, England. The victory earned him a “Fight of the Night” bonus, the second straight “Fight Night” bonus for Struve who also earned a “Submission of the Night” bonus for using an armbar submission to stop Lavar Johnson at UFC 146.
Hunt has won three in a row, with his last bout coming in February of this year in Japan at UFC 144. There he earned a solid first round TKO finish over Cheick Kongo. His other victories include a unanimous decision over Ben Rothwell at UFC 135 and a second round knockout of Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 127.
