Jesus Aguilar sparked the “Prelims” undercard with a scary submission earlier tonight (Sat., Aug. 17, 2024) at UFC 305 LIVE on ESPN+ PPV from inside RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, putting UFC newcomer Stewart Nicoll to sleep with a nasty first-round guillotine choke.
Nicoll came into this flyweight affair with an undefeated 8-0 record and a lot of hype coming from the local region. He was a sizeable betting favorite as well, but Aguilar is a solid fighter who offers strong grappling and a compact frame. Unfortunately for Nicoll, Aguilar showed up to put on a memorable outing in front of a hostile crowd.
After some top time for Nicoll to begin the first round, Aguilar was able to escape and start working his way back to his feet. Nicoll was trying to keep his hold, but he left his head out there too long and Aguilar took full advantage. The Mexican fighter quickly sunk in a tight guillotine choke. Nicoll remained calm at first, but Aguilar kept squeezing.
Aguilar ended up telling the referee that Nicoll had passed out. When the referee moved in to check on Nicoll he realized he was unconscious and put a stop to the fight. Luckily, Nicoll was able to recover and made his way to his feet. It was pretty gnarly, but a great way for Aguilar to spark a card full of potential.
