Despite filling in on just a few days notice, lightweight striker Mike Davis looked absolutely dynamite earlier tonight (Sat., Oct. 12, 2019) at UFC Fight Night 161 live on ESPN+ from inside Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, when he put a brutal stoppage to Thomas Gifford via third-round knockout (punch).
Davis threw heavy bombs from the opening bell as the longer Gifford stood in the pocket to absorb every shot. The punishment calculated so quickly that color commentator Michael Bisping started to call for Gifford’s corner to stop the fight in the second round. The fight would go on and Davis eventually found a home for a finish in the third round when he blasted Gifford with a vicious left-right combo. Gifford fell to the side and faceplanted into the canvas.

With this performance, Davis locks down his first Octagon win after stepping up on short notice in his debut this past April and losing to Gilbert Burns via submission. While Gifford isn’t the toughest of tests at the 155-pound level, Davis showed his true potential and may even produce better results when given a full camp to prepare for UFC battle.
