Max Holloway may have proved he’s the best featherweight of all time last night (Sat., Dec. 8, 2018) at UFC 231 live on pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, when he dissected a more than game Brian Ortega en route to a fourth-round TKO finish (doctor’s stoppage).

It was not only Holloway’s second-straight featherweight title defense, but also his 13th UFC win in a row.

Holloway was able to score the better shots early on by landing crisp right hands and softening Ortega’s body with power hooks. More offensive work from the champion in the second turned Ortega’s face into a red mask.

“T-City” regained some momentum in the third frame after landing his own power shots on the feet, including a spinning elbow that caught Holloway off guard. Holloway clawed back before the bell and felt good heading into the next round. In fact, “Blessed” told UFC color commentator Joe Rogan in between frames that he was going to finish Ortega in the fourth (see it below).

Holloway’s guarantee rang true as he unloaded ferocious combinations and right hands that slammed into Ortega’s head and left eye. The shots would have put down any other featherweight on the planet, but “T City” somehow hung tough. Ortega went back to his corner to enter the fifth and final round, but the doctor ultimately saw enough and waved the title fight off. The damage was done and Ortega was only going to take more unnecessary damage.

With this performance, Holloway may have moved past Jose Aldo as the best featherweight in MMA history. If there’s any debate, Holloway’s two victories over Aldo should seal the deal. This finish may have been the best yet for “Blessed,” but it likely isn’t the last.

While UFC president Dana White would like to see Holloway compete at 155 pounds his next time out, it’s going to be difficult to derail the Hawaiian’s stranglehold on the featherweight division.
